Az UNESCO Levelezős Tanulmányi verseny megrendezésére hetedik alkalommal került sor idén az UNESCO Magyar Nemzeti Bizottság és a Magyar ENSZ Modell Diákegyesület szervezésében. A IV. forduló témája a 2011-es év ( A fák és az erdők éve) UNESCO által meghatározott témájához igazodva: a savas esők volt. /

7th UNESCO modelling contest was organized this year in the cooperation of the Hungarian National Commission for UNESCO and the Hungarian UN Modell student association. The theme was acid rains, based on last year's focus: 2011: Year of forrests.

Április 23-án az UNESCO a Könyvek és szerzői jogok világnapját ünnepli, hogy népszerűsítse az olvasást, a könyvkiadást és az intellektuális javak védelmét. A dátum szimbolikus jelentőségű, hiszen 1616-ban ezen a napon hunyt el Cervantes, Shakespeare és Inca Garcilaso de la Vega. / By celebrating this Day throughout the world, UNESCO seeks to promote reading, publishing and the protection of intellectual property through copyright. 23 April is a symbolic date for world literature, since 23 April 1616 was the date of death of Cervantes, Shakespeare and Inca Garcilaso de la Vega.

1996-ban az UNESCO április 23-t a Könyv és a Szerzői Jogok Világnapjává nyilvánította. The organisers of the programmes are three NGO’s, all of them operating their respective book related websites. Az UNESCO 2012-ben is rendezvénysorozatot szentel a Nemzetközi Nőnapnak, mely során a többek között a nők társadalmi helyzetével foglalkozó kerekasztal beszélgetésekre, filmvetítésekre, koncertekre kerül sor. Az ünnepségek kapcsán ma nyíló művészeti kiállításon hazánkat, és egyben választási csoportunkat Keserű Ilona kortárs magyar képzőművésznő képviseli. Az UNESCO 189. Végrehatjó Tanácsi ülésének (2012. február 27- március 10.) főtémája a szervezet előtt álló gazdasági problémák megoldása, az új helyzet megfelelő kezelése, ahogyan erről Bogyay Katalin közgyűlési elnökasszony is beszámolt felszólalásában. / The 189th session of the Executive Board focuses on the current financial situation of the organization and works hard to find the best solution the face the challenges, as it was also communicated by the President of the General Conference H.E. A Nemzetközi Jazz Nap idén április 30-án kerül először megünneplésre, az UNESCO kulturális szektora szeretne minden ehhez kapcsolódó eseményt, programot az ünnepnap alkalmából létrehozott elektronikus felületen bemutatni. Amennyiben előadók, oktatók, szakértők, szervezetek, rajongók szerepeltetnék kapcsolódó programjukat a nemzetközi listán, legyenek szívesek azt 2012. február 15-ig Titkárságunknak jelezni./

International Jazz Day, celebrated worldwide on April 30, will set the stage for a series of events to take place around the globe in the following days. The Day will bring together performers, educators, governments, experts, and fans alike, as they explore together the history, meaning, impact, and legacy of jazz music throughout the world.

Az UNESCO főigazgatója, Irina Bokova asszony 2012. január 30-án ünnepélyes keretek között megnyitotta a Világörökség egyezmény 40 éves évfordulóját promótáló rendezvénysorozatot az UNESCO párizsi központjában, ahol koncertet adott az UNESCO jószolgálati nagykövete, Herbie Hancock jazz legenda is. /

The Director-General of UNESCO, Irina Bokova, launched the 40th anniversary celebration of the World Heritage Convention in a ceremony at UNESCO Headquarters on 30 January. The launch featured a concert by jazz legend and UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador Herbie Hancock.

In November 2011 New Acropolis Hungary joined the celebration of philosophy, organized all around the world, with a variety of programs all dedicated to promote philosophical reflection and philosophy as an active attitude to life in the people of all ages. Around one thousand persons participated in 22 different activities throughout Hungary.

In November 2011, UNESCO Director-General, Irina Bokova, undertook her first official visit to Hungary and signed a Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation between UNESCO and Hungary.

2011. december 5-től 7-ig, az UNESCO székhelyén, Párizsban kerül megrendezésre az ötödik kormányközi bizottsági ülés. A találkozó egyik központi témája „Az országok kulturális kormányzati programjának támogatása: a civil szervezetek szerepe a négyéves jelentésben.”/The fifth ordinary session of the Intergovernmental Committee takes place at UNESCO Headquarters, Paris, 5-7 December 2011. An exchange session prior to the Opening Ceremony on "Promoting inclusive governance of culture: the role of civil society in the quadrennial periodic reports".

Irina Bokova, az UNESCO főigazgatója 2011. november 15-17. között hivatalos látogatás tett Magyarországon. Budapesti programja során részt vett a Kossuth Lajos téren felállított, UNESCO Világörökség emléktábla avatásán és a World Science Forum megnyitóján. A hivatalos látogatás keretében az UNESCO és Magyarország között együttműködési szándéknyilatkozat aláírásra is sor került. / On 16 and 17 November, UNESCO Director-General, Irina Bokova, undertook her first official visit to Hungary to attend the World Science Forum.The Director-General expressed appreciation of Hungary’s strong support to UNESCO’s mission and underlined UNESCO’s full commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation with Hungary. This was taken forward in the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation between UNESCO and Hungary.

World Teachers’ Day is held annually on 5 October to celebrate the essential role of teachers in providing quality education at all levels. The 2011 events will focus on the theme "Teachers for Gender Equality".

A verseny lehetőséget teremtett arra, hogy a tehetséges karvezetők (18-35 éves korig) a világ minden részéből részt vegyenek a megmérettetésen, bővítsék repertoárjukat, szakmai és baráti kapcsolatokat építsenek. / Participating conductors (age 18-35) had the opportunity to find new repertoire, interesting methods, good friends and of course the musical challenge of the competition.

Az írás-olvasás nemzetközi napján az UNESCO a felnőttoktatás és a műveltség szerepére hívja fel a világ figyelmét. Az eddig megtett jelentős erőfeszítések ellenére, az analfabetizmus továbbra is komoly problémát jelent világszerte: 793 millió felnőtt nem rendelkezik alapvető íráskészséggel, azaz hatból egy írástudatlan; 67,4 millió gyerek nem jár iskolába, ezt a számot tovább növelik a rendszeresen kimaradók. / On International Literacy Day each year, UNESCO reminds the international community of the status of literacy and adult learning. Despite many efforts, literacy remains an elusive target: some 793 million adults lack minimum literacy skills which means that about one in six adults is still not literate; 67.4 million children are out-of-school and more drop out.

Literature needs to flow in order to reach readers in different cultures and create a wave of stories. With the project Literature in flux stories and words are being carried along, connecting cultural landscapes in order to create a confluence of literature and dialogue across borders

World Environment Day (WED) is a day for people from all walks of life to come together to ensure a cleaner, greener and brighter outlook for themselves and future generations. This annual event is the most widely celebrated global day for positive environmental action. WED activities take place all year round but climax on 5 June every year.

The Director-General of UNESCO, Irina Bokova today endorsed recommendations by the International Advisory Committee of the Memory of the World Committee to inscribe 45 new documents and documentary collections from all over the world on the Memory of the World Register, which now numbers a total of 238 items.

“21st Century Media: New Frontiers, New Barriers” is the theme of the next edition of World Press Freedom Day, which will be celebrated on 3 May 2011. Events are planned in more than 100 countries to celebrate the Day, which also marks the 20th anniversary of the Windhoek Declaration for the promotion of free and pluralistic media. International Day of Philosophy has been the initiative of Matsuura Koichiro, Director-General of UNESCO. New Acropolis Hungary has joined the movement with its programs promoting philosophical reflection since 2007. This year we have organized open events throughout the country, inviting the public to dedicate this day to analysis, questioning and search for answers concerning the challenges of our society and our future. In November 2010 more than eight hundred persons were interested in the activities organized in six towns throughout Hungary.

The ASPnet International Coordination Team prepared a selection of UNESCO online publications with the aim to reinforce the information sharing.

Social science from Western countries continues to have the greatest global influence, but the field is expanding rapidly in Asia and Latin America. In sub-Saharan Africa, social scientists from South Africa, Nigeria and Kenya produce 75% of academic publications. In South Asia, social sciences as a whole have low priority. These are a few of the findings from the World Social Science Report, 2010: “Knowledge divides”.
