Április 23-án az UNESCO a Könyvek és szerzői jogok világnapját ünnepli, hogy népszerűsítse az olvasást, a könyvkiadást és az intellektuális javak védelmét. A dátum szimbolikus jelentőségű, hiszen 1616-ban ezen a napon hunyt el Cervantes, Shakespeare és Inca Garcilaso de la Vega. / By celebrating this Day throughout the world, UNESCO seeks to promote reading, publishing and the protection of intellectual property through copyright. 23 April is a symbolic date for world literature, since 23 April 1616 was the date of death of Cervantes, Shakespeare and Inca Garcilaso de la Vega.

1996-ban az UNESCO április 23-t a Könyv és a Szerzői Jogok Világnapjává nyilvánította. Az UNESCO 2012-ben is rendezvénysorozatot szentel a Nemzetközi Nőnapnak, mely során a többek között a nők társadalmi helyzetével foglalkozó kerekasztal beszélgetésekre, filmvetítésekre, koncertekre kerül sor. Az ünnepségek kapcsán ma nyíló művészeti kiállításon hazánkat, és egyben választási csoportunkat Keserű Ilona kortárs magyar képzőművésznő képviseli. Az UNESCO 189. Végrehatjó Tanácsi ülésének (2012. február 27- március 10.) főtémája a szervezet előtt álló gazdasági problémák megoldása, az új helyzet megfelelő kezelése, ahogyan erről Bogyay Katalin közgyűlési elnökasszony is beszámolt felszólalásában. / The 189th session of the Executive Board focuses on the current financial situation of the organization and works hard to find the best solution the face the challenges, as it was also communicated by the President of the General Conference H.E. Ms Katalin Bogyay.

A Nemzetközi Jazz Nap idén április 30-án kerül először megünneplésre, az UNESCO kulturális szektora szeretne minden ehhez kapcsolódó eseményt, programot az ünnepnap alkalmából létrehozott elektronikus felületen bemutatni. Amennyiben előadók, oktatók, szakértők, szervezetek, rajongók szerepeltetnék kapcsolódó programjukat a nemzetközi listán, legyenek szívesek azt 2012. február 15-ig Titkárságunknak jelezni./

International Jazz Day, celebrated worldwide on April 30, will set the stage for a series of events to take place around the globe in the following days. The Day will bring together performers, educators, governments, experts, and fans alike, as they explore together the history, meaning, impact, and legacy of jazz music throughout the world.

Az UNESCO főigazgatója, Irina Bokova asszony 2012. január 30-án ünnepélyes keretek között megnyitotta a Világörökség egyezmény 40 éves évfordulóját promótáló rendezvénysorozatot az UNESCO párizsi központjában, ahol koncertet adott az UNESCO jószolgálati nagykövete, Herbie Hancock jazz legenda is. /

The Director-General of UNESCO, Irina Bokova, launched the 40th anniversary celebration of the World Heritage Convention in a ceremony at UNESCO Headquarters on 30 January. The launch featured a concert by jazz legend and UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador Herbie Hancock.

2011. december 5-től 7-ig, az UNESCO székhelyén, Párizsban kerül megrendezésre az ötödik kormányközi bizottsági ülés. A találkozó egyik központi témája „Az országok kulturális kormányzati programjának támogatása: a civil szervezetek szerepe a négyéves jelentésben.”/The fifth ordinary session of the Intergovernmental Committee takes place at UNESCO Headquarters, Paris, 5-7 December 2011. An exchange session prior to the Opening Ceremony on "Promoting inclusive governance of culture: the role of civil society in the quadrennial periodic reports".

Irina Bokova, az UNESCO főigazgatója 2011. november 15-17. között hivatalos látogatás tett Magyarországon. Budapesti programja során részt vett a Kossuth Lajos téren felállított, UNESCO Világörökség emléktábla avatásán és a World Science Forum megnyitóján. A hivatalos látogatás keretében az UNESCO és Magyarország között együttműködési szándéknyilatkozat aláírásra is sor került. / On 16 and 17 November, UNESCO Director-General, Irina Bokova, undertook her first official visit to Hungary to attend the World Science Forum.The Director-General expressed appreciation of Hungary’s strong support to UNESCO’s mission and underlined UNESCO’s full commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation with Hungary. This was taken forward in the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation between UNESCO and Hungary.

Literature needs to flow in order to reach readers in different cultures and create a wave of stories. With the project Literature in flux stories and words are being carried along, connecting cultural landscapes in order to create a confluence of literature and dialogue across borders

A nemzetközi nap célja, hogy jobban megismerjük a kulturális sokszínűségben rejlő értékeket, és könnyebben alkalmazkodjunk a kulturális különbségekhez. Ennek érdekében kéri az UNESCO tagállamait és a világ lakosságát, hogy közösen ünnepeljék ezt a napot. Az ENSZ által indított Facebook kampány linkje elérhető innen./ The Day will provide us with an opportunity to deepen understanding of the values of Cultural Diversity and to learn to “live together” better. This is why UNESCO appeals to the Member States as well as to civil society to celebrate this World Day. The UN also launched a Facebook campaign for the Day.

Heritage is generally presented by picture books, albums but this time it appears as the subject of an innovative, scientific approach for the first time in Hungarian in 2009 and now – according to its international importance – in English.

The studies have been collected not only for experts but also for professional trainings both for trainers and students as an example of world heritage investigations for all countries. One part of the studies can already raise interest of elementary and high schools.
