HU: A Magyarországi Fordítóirodák Egyesülete második kerekasztal-beszélgetésére, melynek témája az önkéntes munka, ennek lehetőségei és jogi háttere lesz, 2013. április 25-én, 17.00 órakor kerül sor. A szervezők nyelvi szolgáltatóknak, fordítóknak, tolmácsoknak és minden nyelvet beszélő és segítő szándékú embernek ajánlják a programot, melyre minden kedves érdeklődőt szeretettel várnak. HU: 2013. április 22-én az Informatika a Társadalomért Egyesület a Föld napján Papírmentes napot szervez, melynek célja, hogy ráirányítsa a vállalatok figyelmét a környezettudatos működés fontosságára és bemutassa, hogy a különböző informatikai megoldások és technológiák hogyan segíthetik nemcsak a környezet védelmét, hanem a vállalatok üzleti hatékonyságának és eredményességének növekedését.

EN As the host of the WSIS+10 Review Event, UNESCO addressed, together with its partners, the major challenges in building Knowledge Societies for sustainable development. This first multi-stakeholder review event looked at the WSIS Action Lines’ achievements, and analysed recent developments as well as forecasts. It also recommended some input to the post-2015 process.

EN: This year the Association of Hungarian Archivists for the first time announced the Archives' Publication of the Year Award which is given in four categories. The Ceremony was held on the 30th of January at the Ceremonial Hall of the ELTE University Library.
HU: Tavaly első alkalommal tartotta meg az UNESCO a rádió világnapját. A javaslatot az ENSZ is üdvözölte, így 2013-tól minden év február 13-án ENSZ napként tarthatjuk számon a rádió világnapját. Ezen a napon a rádiót, mint médiumot ünnepeljük, a nap annak a médiumnak a fontosságára hívja fel a figyelmet, mely a legszélesebb tömegekhez képes eljutni világszerte, mindamellett az UNESCO célja, hogy javítsa a nemzetközi együttműködést a műsorszolgáltatók között, valamint ösztönözni kívánja mind a nagy hálózatokat, mind a kisebb, közösségi rádiókat, hogy segítsék az információkhoz való hozzáférést és a szólásszabadságot az éterben.

EN: UNESCO proclaimed 13 February of each year World Radio Day, and it becomes a United Nations Day from 2013 onwards, to be celebrated by all UN agencies, funds and programmes. 13 February is World Radio Day — a day to celebrate radio as a medium; to improve international cooperation between broadcasters; and to encourage major networks and community radio alike to promote access to information and freedom of expression over the airwaves.

HU: Életének 83. évében, szeptember 10-én elhunyt Enyedi György geográfus, a Magyar UNESCO Bizottság egykori elnöke, a Magyar Tudományos Akadémia rendes tagja, 1999 és 2002 között alelnöke. A társadalomföldrajz elismert professzora a társadalom és a gazdaság régiók közötti és a településhálózaton belüli egyenlőtlenségeit kutatta. Nevéhez fűződik a falusi régió koncepciójának kidolgozása, valamint a globális urbanizációs ciklus modellje. Kiemelkedő munkáját számos kitüntetéssel, köztük Széchenyi-díjjal ismerték el.
EN: György Enyedi distinguished geographer and economist, a full member of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences and former chair of the Hungarian National Commission for UNESCO dies at 83. He played a major role in the long-term development of regional science as an independent discipline, and received numerous awards.
20 éve alapította meg az UNESCO a Világemlékezet Programot, mely a világ archívum, könyvtári gyűjtemény és dokumentum örökségének a megőrzését hívatott elősegíteni. Jelenleg a Világemlékezet Regiszterén 245 dokumentum örökség szerepel, köztük 5 magyar jelölés. / This year UNESCO’s Memory of the World (MoW) Programme is celebrating its 20th anniversary. The vision of the Memory of the World Programme is to fully preserve and protect the documentary heritage of the world. The Memory of the World Register numbers a total of 245 documents, 5 of them are from Hungary.

2012. június 18-án Kubában került megrendezésre a Második Nemzetközi Diploma Kurzus „Média az örökség megismertetéséért” címmel. A kurzus, amely először 2011-ben került megrendezésre arra kívánja felhívni a figyelmet, hogy a média és a kommunikáció meghatározó szerepet játszik az örökségvédelem szükségességének tudatosabbá tételében. / The opening ceremony of the Second International Diploma Course “Media to Communicate Heritage” was held at the University College San Gerónimo de La Habana in Havana, Cuba, on Monday 18 June 2012. The Course, which was first held in 2011, aims to highlight the importance of communication in raising public awareness of the need to promote and preserve cultural heritage.

2012 június 22-én a Nyílt Oktatási Tartalmak (OER – Open Educational Resources) Kongresszusa közétette a 2012-es párizsi OER deklarációt, mely arra szólítja fel a tagországok kormányait, hogy a közpénzből finanszírozott oktatási segédanyagokat tegyék szabadon elérhetővé. / On Friday 22 June, the World Open Educational Resources (OER) Congress released the 2012 Paris OER Declaration which calls on Governments to openly license publicly funded educational materials.

The Director-General of UNESCO, Irina Bokova today endorsed recommendations by the International Advisory Committee of the Memory of the World Committee to inscribe 45 new documents and documentary collections from all over the world on the Memory of the World Register, which now numbers a total of 238 items.

“21st Century Media: New Frontiers, New Barriers” is the theme of the next edition of World Press Freedom Day, which will be celebrated on 3 May 2011. Events are planned in more than 100 countries to celebrate the Day, which also marks the 20th anniversary of the Windhoek Declaration for the promotion of free and pluralistic media. An International Symposium on Freedom of Expression, sponsored by the Swedish National Commission, will be organized by UNESCO at its Headquarters on 26 January 2011. Based on the premises that freedom of expression is a cornerstone of the human rights edifice, and that open and participatory communication is vital for successful development, the debates will focus on the status of press freedom worldwide, the safety of media professionals as well as the changes of the media landscape in the digital age.
