A UNESCO Center for Peace angol nyelvű tájékoztatója:
We are approaching your organization because we believe you and your students may have an interest in supporting and participating in our Builders of the Universe summer program for the 2009 session, run under the auspices of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) Center for Peace. The 2009 session of the Builders of the Universe summer camp program will involve hundreds of US and international high school students at the Maryland School for the Deaf in Frederick, Maryland. Giving the limited number of openings, we are encouraging those interested to get back with us at this planning stage to secure the participants of their country at the next session. The deadline to register is set for June 30, 2009.
The Program is all about nurturing an understanding of today?s world and ensuring that tomorrow?s leaders are globally literate and armed with adequate tools for their assigned mission: building the defenses of peace in the minds of their peers, each mind at a time, through Education, Science, Culture and Communication.
Since the first Mock UN/Builders of the Universe program, held in the summer 2007, the UNESCO Center for Peace has reached out to likeminded institutions at the local, regional and international level in an effort to build the cohesive network needed to advance the cause of peace and global understanding by planting the seed of peace at the grassroots level. Tangible result of that diplomatic effort includes the participation of over 100 students and facilitators from around the world during last year?s session.
The upcoming 14-day 2009 residential program will be held from July 19th until August 1st. The summer program will cover the following topics and activities:
Model United Nations Conference: Nurtures participants? understanding of today?s world and give them an opportunity to address global issues from a different perspective. During the conference, participants employ a variety of communication and critical thinking skills learned in the program in order to represent the policies of their countries.
These skills include public speaking, small group communications, research, policy analysis, active listening, negotiating, conflict resolution, note taking, and technical writing.
ABC of a Builder of the Universe: This class teaches about the fundamentals of the Human Condition with case study of Selected Peace Nobel Laureates and other unsung heroes.
